In-depth Reviews

I've often thought "It's fantastic to display all these covers, but do the covers alone explain what made Marvel great?"  The answer, of course, is "No!"  In In-depth Reviews we'll try to explain what was magical about Marvel during the Silver Age.  Two serious students of the Silver Age have accepted my invitation to contribute some essays that put Marvel's best into a wider context of historical, philiosophical and artistic endeavour.  So say "Hi!" to Pierre Comtois and Gregorio Montejo, as they take you on a tour of the finest of Marvel's Silver Age!

Greg & Pierre have chosen to divide the Silver Age into four overlapping periods - and to hop around between them, rather than review issues in chronological order.  In other words, you never know what they'll turn the spotlight on next!  You can read their rationale in the sidebars attached to any one of the reviews, but to give you some idea, the four periods are color-coded as follows:

The Early, Formative Years
(1961-1962)
The Years of Conscious Consolidation
(1963-1965)
The
Grandiose Years
(1966-1969)
The
Twilight Years
(1970-)
