|

Four covers were added this time:
Strange Tales # 78, Thor # 129 and 130 and Marvel's Greatest Comics # 54. |
|
| 03 Oct 2004 Covers: 1539 |
Six covers were added this time, all by the underrated Dan Adkins: Strange Tales # 160, 162, 164, 166, 168 and Tales to Astonish # 94. |
|

Five covers were added this time: Marvel Collectors' Item Classics # 8, Marvel Tales # 16 and 25, and Sgt Fury # 46 and 55. There were no upgrades. The Featured Cover highlighted one of the issues covered in the long-awaited first part of The Grandiose Years (Pierre's Third Phase of Silver Age Marvel): Journey into Mystery Annual # 1. |
|
| 18 July 2004 Covers: 1528 |
This update was all about providing a new feature on the site: FF original vs. reprint cover comparisons! Ten covers were added: Marvel Collectors' Item Classics # 11, 13 and 14, Marvel's Greatest Comics # 25, 28, 31, 32, 33, 43 and 47. Twelve covers were upgraded: Marvel Collectors' Item Classics # 12, Fantastic Four # 12, 20, 23, 33, 34, 36, 39, 42, 44, 45, 56 and 64. The Featured Cover highlighted one of the upgraded covers: FF # 64. |
|
| 06 Feb 2004 Covers: 1518 |
Six covers added this update:
Kid Colt, Outlaw # 116 and # 130,
Love Romances # 87,
Captain America # 121,
Conan the Barbarian # 3 and
Special Marvel Edition # 5. |
|
| 08 Mar 2003 Covers: 1512 |
Six covers added this update: Tales to Astonish # 92, Strange Tales # 73, Journey into Mystery # 15, Kid Colt, Outlaw # 148, Patsy and Hedy Annual # 1 and Marvel Double Feature # 9. Upgraded were Tales to Astonish # 82 and 88. In reference to my popular Rejected Covers page, the Featured Cover was Captain America # 105. |
|
| 10 Feb 2003 Covers: 1506 |
Four covers added this update: Tales to Astonish # 80 (also this update's Featured Cover), plus Fantastic Four # 120, Journey into Mystery # 31, and Patsy & Hedy # 107. Also, some upgrades: Captain America # 105, Tales to Astonish # 81 and Tales of Suspense # 93. *Plus* - something I've been wanting to include for a long time - a Rejected Covers page. There are more to follow, but initially I've included Six rejected covers. |
|
| 28 Jan 2003 Covers: 1502 |
Did I really add 16 covers? Not quite. An audit of my statistics page revealed 7 x FF covers I'd neglected to count, but I did add 9: Journey into Mystery (Thor) # 119 (also this update's Featured Cover), Fantastic Four # 106, Sub-Mariner # 18, Tower of Shadows # 5, and Marvel Tales # 110 and 120. That's 6, the other 3 were 1980s additions to my Wordless Covers page. A few upgrades, too: Fantastic Four # 76, 77, 88 and 98. |
|
| 22 Nov 2002 Covers: 1486 |
New covers this time: Tales to Astonish # 96 (which is also this update's Featured Cover), plus Strange Tales # 108 ... I also upgraded Fantastic Four # 46 and 67. Bigger news: my Steve Ditko gallery is back on-line, and I've added a new page to my Themes section - this one's all about Wordless Covers! |
|
| 07 Oct 2002 Covers: 1484 |
Well I spent nearly nine months hatching this update, so I trust it was worth the wait! Five new covers this time: Tales to Astonish # 16 (which was also this update's Featured Cover), as well as Strange Tales # 42 and 45, Tales of Suspense # 72 and Captain Savage # 13. I also upgraded Avengers # 10 - well actually I did that back in June, but forgot to mention it until now! |
|
| 27 Jan 2002 Covers: 1479 |
Six new covers for you this time, including a few you probably didn't think I was going to "cover" (or may never even have heard of): Strange Tales # 100, Kid Colt # 46, Modeling with Millie # 29, Ghost Rider # 6, Where Creatures Roam # 1, and Harvey # 1. More upgrades, too: Avengers # 22, 39 and 50, X-Men # 30, Captain Marvel # 11 and Chamber of Darkness # 1. |
|
| 12 Jan 2002 Covers: 1473 |
More work on the Months section, and three new covers: Groovy # 1, Captain America # 118, and Linda Carter, Student Nurse # 5. (Hmmm, that's odd, didn't Cap know a couple of ladies named Carter???) The latest Featured Cover is an upgraded Avengers King-Size Special # 2, a blockbuster if ever there was one, by John Buscema. Big John passed away last week - the Silver Age thus loses another giant. Our condolences to his family. |
|
| 26 Dec 2001 Covers: 1470 |
Five covers added this time: Strange Tales # 95, Modeling With Millie # 25, Life With Millie # 16, Kid Colt # 113 and Rawhide Kid # 23. I also upgraded a bunch of Avengers covers: # 37, 47, 49, 78 and 92. Meanwhile, my latest Featured Cover was chosen to match Pierre & Greg's latest review!
|
Spent the last two months relocating and restructuring the site, and during part of that time erroneously had the main page claiming that the previous update's six western covers (see below) constituted a 'new' update. What was actually new was Captain America # 133, Marvel Tales # 127, Kid Colt # 80 and Gunsmoke Western # 57, while I also upgraded Captain America # 107.
| 30 July 2001 Covers: 1461 |
Six more covers this time, all westerns: Kid Colt # 41, 73, and 128, Rawhide Kid # 19, 74 and Annual # 1. This week's Featured Cover is the one that sprang immediately to mind when I noticed it was going to be the 50th - what better way to celebrate than with this immortal Spider-Man classic cover by John Romita from 1967?
| 14 July 2001 Covers: 1455 |
For this update I added no less than 21 covers, 20 of which are westerns: Rawhide Kid # 1, 11, 51, 61, 65, 68, 70 and 77, Kid Colt # 38, 70, 117 and 125, Two-Gun Kid # 46, 56, 66, 72, 77, 88 and 91, and Gunsmoke Western # 51. The only non-western cover added is Kull # 9, which is a worthy addition to my expanded John Severin page. This week's Featured Cover is, naturally, one of the above-mentioned westerns, also by John Severin.
| 23 June 2001 Covers: 1434 |
Eleven covers added this time, Journey into Mystery # 70, Thor # 141, Kid Colt # 97 and 139, Love Romances # 92 and 103, Rawhide Kid # 32, Two-Gun Kid # 34 and 36, Gunsmoke Western # 43 and Our Love Story # 8. This week's Featured Cover is one of those "Origin" style covers that just about every title had at some stage - in this case, for one of Marvel's western heroes, and a cover by Joe Maneely.
| 08 June 2001 Covers: 1423 |
Five covers this time, Thor # 142, Kid Colt # 110, Love Romances # 98, Gunsmoke Western # 65, and The Mighty Marvel Western # 3. I also added another two months to the month-by-month index - July and Aug 1961. This week's Featured Cover answers the following trivla question - name the cover that features both Spidey and DD, drawn by Kirby! (Thanks to Lyle for suggesting this one.)
| 28 Apr 2001 Covers: 1418 |
Just 3 more covers this time, Journey into Mystery # 66, Our Love Story # 3, and Sgt Fury # 62. This week's Featured Cover is a real curiosity - apparently the name "Hulk" was pretty popular with Stan because he used it ... well, more than once! Actually closer inspection leads me to conclude that the monster on the cover was probably inspired by Jack Kirby's cat! (Thanks to Dennis for the scan.)
| 14 Apr 2001 Covers: 1415 |
Five covers added this time: Tales to Astonish # 17, Strange Tales # 109, Kathy # 1, Sgt Fury # 29, and this week's Featured Cover which is one I'll bet you've never seen before. Although it bears a striking resemblance to Spider-Man # 42, it was actually a half-sized giveaway, attached to the cover of the Feb 1969 issue of the now-defunct EYE magazine! I also upgraded Journey into Mystery # 115. |
|
| 31 Mar 2001 Covers: 1410 |
Just three more covers this time, Mighty Thor # 166, Strange Tales # 128 and Millie the Model # 126. But I've also upgraded X-Men # 9 and 11 as well as this week's Featured Cover, which marked the first Silver Age re-telling of the origin of a particular shield-slinging hero whose name escapes me... ...and I finally, finally added the Annuals pages for 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970. Whew! |
|
| 10 Mar 2001 Covers: 1407 |
Four more covers this time, Strange Tales # 97 and 123, Iron Man # 17 and Journey into Mystery # 49. I also upgraded X-Men # 26 and Spidey Annual # 1. My 43rd Featured Cover marks the real first cover appearance of The Watcher, although he had actually made his debut back in FF # 13. Last week's Featured Cover was NOT the uninterfering one's first appearance (thanks, Anthony and Harry, for pointing this out!) - he actually had his own series in Tales of Suspense, before Cap turned up! Last but not least, Pierre and I treat you to another six sensational reviews!
| 03 Mar 2001 Covers: 1403 |
Just three covers added this time, Strange Tales # 120 and 134 and Journey into Mystery # 30 (the missing piece on my John Severin page). I've also upgraded Not Brand Echh # 13. My 42nd Featured Cover marks the very first appearance of The Watcher, a character who would loom large in the key Silver Surfer/Galactus issues of the Fantastic Four a few months later! And of course, Pierre and I have six more reviews for you!
| 10 Feb 2001 Covers: 1400 |
Just one added cover this time, Journey into Mystery # 105, but there's plenty of other stuff a'happenin! Upgrades abound once more, this time it's Journey into Mystery # 84, X-Men # 4, Hulk # 103 and Tales of Suspense # 78. My 41st Featured Cover is one of the few "symbolic" covers produced by Marvel, and it's one that several of you have written to me about! And as if that isn't enough, Pierre and I have six more reviews for you!
| 03 Feb 2001 Covers: 1399 |
Only five covers added this time, but boy, have I been busy upgrading lousy scans! In honor of my latest Themes page, I've added Spider-Man Annual # 15, which is one of five issues I've found which have newspaper headlines on the cover! (Can you figure out the other four?) The other added covers are Journey into Mystery # 110, Thor # 145 and 159 and Tales to Astonish # 51. The upgrades keep coming: Journey into Mystery 93, 109, 112, 114, and Annual # 1, Tales of Suspense # 73, 77, 86, 87 and 92, and Spider-Man # 99. My 40th Featured Cover is one of the true standouts of the Silver Age.
| 20 Jan 2001 Covers: 1394 |
Ten more covers for you: a whole bunch of X-Men: 69, 72, 73, 74, 75, 78 and 92, as well as Spider-Man Annuals # 8 and 9, and Sub-Mariner # 12. Plenty of upgrades too, as I continue to replaces the worst scans with the best: X-Men: 2, 7 and 21, Incredible Hulk 102, 107, 126 and 128, Spider-Man # 35 and 96 and Not Brand Echh # 9. My 39th Featured Cover is one of the upgraded Hulk covers, featuring a villain more commonly seen battling Iron Man.
| 07 Jan 2001 Covers: 1384 |
Seven more covers for you: Tales to Astonish # 99, Strange Tales # 106, Sub-Mariner # 20, Kid Colt # 29, Modeling with Millie # 34, Mad About Millie Special # 1 and My Love # 6. As well, there are upgrades of Fantastic Four # 85 and Annual # 2. My 38th Featured Cover is one of the only covers ever to feature a pink background (and NO, it's not a Millie, Patsy or Chili cover - it's an airborne Kirby classic from Jan 1964, and it's one of the mags reviewed in Pierre's analysis of 24 key issues from Marvel's formative years!)
| 03 Jan 2001 Covers: 1377 |
Twelve covers added this time, with the emphasis on the "gal" titles which I've pretty much ignored until now: Patsy Walker # 99, Patsy Walker's Fashion Parade # 1, Patsy & Hedy # 85, 88 and 102, Millie the Model # 141, Modeling with Millie # 40, 46 and 52. (OK, that should make it 1384, but I took a few sub-standard Millie scans down!) There's also Journey into Mystery # 78, Strange Tales # 7, Tales of Suspense # 11, and an upgrade of Iron Man # 5. My 37th Featured Cover is one of those gal titles that celebrates the swingin' sixties - whatever they were!
| 10 Dec 2000 Covers: 1372 |
Eight covers added this time, with a distictly western flavor: Kid Colt # 34, Rawhide Kid # 10 and 47, Two-Gun Kid # 28 and 52 and Gunsmoke Western # 33 and 40. There's also Tales to Astonish # 3, and a few more upgrades: Captain America # 101, Avengers # 35 and 44. My 36th Featured Cover is one of those westerns mentioned above - a classic if ever I've seen one!
| 26 Nov 2000 Covers: 1364 |
This update saw six 'new' Silver Age covers: Tales of Suspense # 19, 27 and 34, as well as Tales to Astonish # 33 and Kid Colt # 5 and 92. As well, I found time to upgrade some of my site's worst scans - Spider-Man # 21, 56, 63, 72, 75, 77, 82, 93, 97 and 100, Captain America # 113 and 114, and Tales to Astonish # 48. My 35th Featured Cover is one of those upgraded Spidey classics by John Romita, on whose page you'll also find a post-Silver Age addition of some historical significance.
| 5/6 Nov 2000 Covers: 1358 |
Five 'new' covers for you this time - Journey into Mystery # 14 and 75 and Tales to Astonish # 41, 42 and 46. A few upgrades - Astonish # 47, and Journey into Mystery # 83, 100 and 121, with the first of these coinciding with Greg & Pierre's latest review. My 34th Featured Cover is a forgotten Crossover from a new section of the site that you'll find in the Themes gallery.
| 15 Oct 2000 Covers: 1353 |
Just three covers added this time - Strange Tales # 8, 26 and 36 - but I've spent several hours putting all the larger Thor and Doctor Strange images back on-line (they'd been off-line for several weeks). While I was at it, I took the opportunity to upgrade a couple of Doc Strange covers - # 174 and # 179, and couldn't resist selecting another for my 33rd Featured Cover.
| 09 Sep 2000 Covers: 1350 |
Four covers added this time - Marvel Tales # 128, Strange Tales # 66, and Tales to Astonish # 9 and 21. Meanwhile, my 32nd Featured Cover pays tribute to the recently-departed and now, I guess, immortal Chic Stone.
| 05 Aug 2000 Covers: 1346 |
For this update I added seven new covers - Journey into Mystery # 104, Strange Tales # 103 and 105, and Sgt Fury # 34, 44, 53 and Annual # 6. Meanwhile, my 31st Featured Cover is an Avengers classic from 1967. Enjoy!
| 15 July 2000 Covers: 1339 |
Just two new covers this time - Tales to Astonish # 45 and Marvel Tales # 151, plus four upgrades: Tales of Suspense # 85, Iron Man # 4, Journey into Mystery # 85, and a classic Kirby/Stone Sgt Fury cover, one of the most unusual crossovers of all time - it's my 30th Featured Cover. |
