Marvel Comics in the 1960s

Marvel Comics in the 1960s - An Issue by Issue Field Guide to a Pop Culture Phenomenon!
by Pierre Comtois

Readers of The Four Phases of Silver Age Marvel (on this website) will be excited to know that author Pierre Comtois is now in print, with a lavishly illustrated tribute to Marvel's Silver Age.

Out in July 2009 from those great guys & gals at TwoMorrows Publishing, this is the book that builds on the great material that Pierre has presented here, to present a step-by-step look at how a company that had the reputation of being one of the least creative in a generally moribund industry, emerged as one of the most dynamic, slightly irreverent and downright original contributions to an era when pop-culture, from Tom Wolfe to Andy Warhol, emerged as the dominant force in the artistic life of America (and the rest of the world, it must be said!)
Reviews and Articles
The Four Phases of Silver Age Marvel continues, as we jump out of sequence to take a look at the beginning, middle and end of Part IV: The Twilight Years.

If you haven't caught up with the first three phases yet, why not start now?  They're called Part I: The Early, Formative Years, Part II: The Years of Consolidation and Part III: The Grandiose Years!
And don't miss The Rise and Fall of The Marvel Age of Comics - Parts 1, 2 & 3.   Author Barry Pearl was there at the birth of Marvel's Silver Age, and raises many interesting comparisons between the (then) moribund DC and the lively Marvel!
