Astonishing Tales was an attempt to re-create the double-feature success of titles like Tales of Suspense and ... Tales to Astonish. This title was a vehicle for Dr Doom, possibly the first villain in any company's universe to get his own strip, and Ka-Zar, who had been a popular supporting character in several titles. Strangely, Ka-Zar got his own title the very same month, but it contained only reprints, while new stories were here. Go figure!
