I've always disliked the use of word balloons on covers. I don't mind a title or two, but well ... sometimes less is more! Marvel went all the way with this concept on almost fifty covers during the Silver Age, mostly over a 6-month period from late 1968 thru early 1969. The results are that we get to see a few examples of the artist's vision without any lettering at all!
