Fury had his own WW2 title Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos before resurfacing as Colonel Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Strange Tales # 135 (Aug 1965).
After 34 issues sharing the spotlight with Dr Strange, Ol' Nick and the S.H.I.E.L.D. team had their own title. The last 18 issues of Strange Tales and the first few issues of Fury's own title were largely created by the remarkable Jim Steranko, and comics would never be the same again.
